Prescribed Fire Practitioner Maxi Green apprenticed with the Fire Forward program in 2025 and joined the practitioner squad in July 2026.

After graduating with a bachelor's degree in marine biology from UC Santa Cruz in 2022, Maxi transitioned from summer camp instructor to full-time outdoor educator. They also broadened their scope, developing ecological monitoring, stewardship, and firefighting skills. Some of their favorite moments from their career include mentoring AmeriCorps members in chainsaw use, managing invasives in fire scars with the NPS, and responding to fires on BLM engines in the Mojave Desert. Today, they’re dedicated to the continued success of the “good fire revival” taking place in Northern California.

Maxi strives to bring an awareness of long-standing cultural fire practices and modern fire agency culture to their work. They believe that inter-agency cooperation, collaboration across property lines, and management projects that span generations are the tools needed to restore ecological function, because our very survival depends on the land's ability to recover.

Outside of work, Maxi designs tabletop games, plays the banjo, and rollerblades.
