Make an impact for Tomales Bay at this community beach cleanup and coastal learning day.

Put your love of the coast into action at our Coastal Stewardship Day at the Cypress Grove Preserve on the east shore of Tomales Bay. Join together with other caring community members excited to tend one of California’s richest and most diverse coastal habitats.

Led by our stewardship apprentices JJ Carmona and Jonathan Lopez, this day is an invitation to learn alongside emerging leaders in stewardship and conservation. They will guide volunteers in a beach cleanup, invasive plant removal, and maintenance at the breathtaking preserve framed by towering Monterey cypress trees, eelgrass beds, native grasslands, and coastal marsh.

This stewardship day centers shared learning and collective action. Participants will hear about the ecological importance of the preserve and the real-world work it takes to care for it. Our apprentices will offer context about their training, the skills they are developing, and the pathways into land-based conservation careers, creating a welcoming space for questions, curiosity, and connection across experience levels.

Bring sturdy shoes, weather-appropriate layers, and a willingness to get your hands dirty in service of our coastal ecosystems. Come support the next generation of land stewards and be part of caring for Cypress Grove Preserve together.

About Jonathan Lopez and JJ Carmona , stewardship apprentices:

Both Jonathan Lopez and JJ Carmona have worked with Civicorps based in West Oakland. Lopez has experience guiding teams in conservation work, habitat restoration, and on-site project coordination. Lopez brings dedication, hands-on expertise, and leadership to his work.

In addition to habit restoration and trail work with Civicorps, Carmona graduated from Watershed Research & Training Center’s Wildland Fire Fighter II Academy. He intends to use his experiences in conservation and indigenous stewardship with him on prescribed burns.
