Facilities & Land Stewardship Specialist Martin Malate feels ever grateful and honored to be entrusted with such a title working with passionate and knowledgeable people in some of the most beautiful places imaginable. His relationship with the natural world grows deeper, going through different phases, relating to it in novel ways over time. He started with trail work volunteering and general preserve stewardship pre-2020, then spent 2020-2022 focusing on prescribed fire monitoring and operations working for UC Davis and The Nature Conservancy in North Carolina seasonally.

Martin joined All Hands Ecology as a member of the inaugural Prescribed Fire Apprentice cohort in 2023 and was later promoted into the organization's first Prescribed Fire Practitioner cohort. Over the past 3.5 years, he has developed deep leadership and operational experience in prescribed fire and stewardship, treasuring strong and invaluable relationships across the organization and fire community. He served as a mentor and support to Fire Forward apprentices, members of the Good Fire Alliance prescribed burn association, and countless characters of all backgrounds beyond.
He’s excited for a change in scenery and pace, hoping to build an even deeper relationship with the land, the people that work and play in it, and focus on diversifying skills as he grows in his land stewardship career.
